Chambers & Nier, PC, is a small CPA firm located in Denton, Maryland since its inception in 1988. The firm provides financial reporting, business planning, technology support, regulatory compliance services, and tax preparation services to both businesses and individuals. While most of our clients are primarily within a 50 mile radius of Denton, we also provide services as far away as New York, Florida, and Arizona. The firm has successfully passed all practice monitoring reviews (aka peer reviews) as originally required by voluntary membership in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and subsequently required by statute in the State of Maryland, since the firm’s inception.
Brandon T. Nier, CPA is the president of Chambers & Nier, PC. He is a 1996 graduate of Salisbury University, Perdue School of Business, and was one of the 6% that passed all parts of the Maryland CPA examination on his first try in November 1996. Mr. Nier began his accounting career working for Thomas S. Chambers, PC right out of college. He became partner with Mr. Chambers in 2008, upon which the firm name was changed to Chambers & Nier, PC.
Mr. Nier has lived in Denton, MD his entire life and is married with two sons. He has served on various non-profit organization boards of directors including Choptank Athletic Association, Caroline County Youth Soccer Association, Denton Little League, and Friends of John Donohue, Inc. His roles in these organizations has helped him get to know the local community as well as assist to raise funds that directly benefit the youth and elderly of Denton. Mr. Nier also served as Treasurer of the BPO Elks of Easton, MD from 2002 to 2006.
Mr. Nier serves as the main Information Technology personnel in the firm. In addition to maintaining all of the firm’s hardware and software, he has also assisted numerous clients in setting up IT systems, from a single user to a multi-machine integrated network. Mr. Nier has been utilizing QuickBooks accounting software since 1997 and is proficient in all of its aspects. He taught continuing education classes on QuickBooks at Chesapeake College from 2001 to 2007. Mr. Nier has also helped numerous clients implement the use of QuickBooks in their business as well as provide ongoing support in the use of the software.
Tom Chambers, CPA is the vice president and founder of Chambers & Nier, PC. He is a 1978 graduate of Washington College, Chestertown Maryland, was awarded his CPA certificate in 1980, and was employed by international and regional accounting firms until 1988.
In November 2004, Mr. Chambers received a gubernatorial appointment to serve on the Maryland State Board of Public Accountancy. He was responsible for the initial implementation of mandatory practice monitoring in Maryland for CPA’s, and was involved in various aspects of modernizing licensure qualifications as well as participating in investigations of practice related complaints. In 2005, Mr. Chambers was appointed to the Continuing Professional Education Advisory Committee of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy, a position he still holds. He retired from the State Board as chairman in June 2009.
Prior to service on the State Board, Mr. Chambers was active with the Maryland Association of CPA’s from 2001 through 2004. He served primarily on the Professional Ethics Committee, reviewing complaints of ethics related matters and helping to formulate policy on ethical issues in the profession. In 2002, he was appointed as the Maryland liaison to the national Joint Ethics Enforcement Program involving the Securities and Exchange Commission as well as other regulatory bodies. Also in 2002, he served on Maryland’s Accounting Reform Task Force which developed policies and procedures for effective compliance with requirements imposed by the Sarbanes-Oxley legislation.
Mr. Chambers has also been active with numerous community organizations. He is a past president and treasurer of Caroline Country Club, past president and treasurer of the Mid-Shore Council on Family Violence, and a past treasurer of the Miles River Yacht Club.
Renah Sowers, administrative assistant, joined the firm in June 2014. She is currently taking college courses to earn her degree in Accounting. Ms. Sowers handles most of our payroll related services as well as other various office tasks. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
